THE VISION

This project is a concept that I have had in my mind and my heart for a long time. Since I attended ArtCenter in 2009 I entered a completely new world and felt compelled to use my skills to create change and influence the future in what I believe to be a positive way.

Groundworks is the idea that I can sow seeds into the community and create a little dent in the world by serving my students through the vehicle of Jiu Jitsu.

I’ve been coaching for a few years and have assisted in launching a successful school from the ground up, however I was not in a position to design and execute all aspects of the experience. Groundworks is an opportunity to put all the pieces of this concept together.

Phase 1 is beginning, and though it’s not perfect I will always be adapting, learning, and refining as is the nature of design and art. I have many avenues to grow.

If you choose to take part in this stage of the journey with me I want to thank you for the belief in this idea and the opportunity for me to build something with your kids and create something truly special.

Thank you!

-Rich

There is so much to learn from Jiu Jitsu. I see it as a vehicle to create positive change and impact. As a coach I support all my students and seek to develop trust and real bonds. Every student is coachable, and with my lesson plan I patiently teach them, and build their confidence so that they can eventually become self-reliant, free and empowered.

+ + +

3 reasons why I do what I do:

  1. Time is precious: We can’t go backwards, so the head start that kids have should not be taken lightly. I aim to help kids cultivate skill, life lessons and useful habits. My lesson plan is designed to reinforce Jiu Jitsu’s ability to cultivate these skills.

2. Self belief is everything. Self belief sets the foundation for the rest of your life. It’s easier to build strong kids, than fix broken adults. It’s difficult to go back and try to fix things. Self belief is a core value that my lesson plan is designed to cultivate.

3. Jiu Jitsu is so much fun. I love training, learning, and helping people understand this art. It’s physical, mental, spiritual and ever changing. As a practicioner the learning of techniques and application change like seasons because we change as people. I won’t always be in top shape and healthy, so it constantly reminds me of how precious time is and to make the most of my training especially when it comes to peak performance.

It brings me joy to be able to make a living, refine my craft, and share the art I love.

I am truly grateful to live this life.

Live with Lightness, Power, & Grace.
